It stands \u003cstrong\u003e35cm\u003c\/strong\u003e high and is of urn form: a fluted domed cover with button finial, a cylindrical upper section, and an urn-shaped lower body with moulded scroll handles and a \u003cstrong\u003emetal tap with shell-form thumbpiece\u003c\/strong\u003e, raised on a slender stem and a square plinth with scroll feet.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe decoration is printed with flowering branches in \u003cstrong\u003eturquoise and green with ochre foliage\u003c\/strong\u003e, framed by green geometric borders and gilt lines, and the cover and lower body are finely fluted.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePatent tea infusers of this kind were made by Wedgwood in the 19th century to brew tea and dispense it through the tap. A comparable example, decorated in blue, is held in the \u003cstrong\u003eV\u0026amp;A Wedgwood Collection\u003c\/strong\u003e at Barlaston (accession WE.5023:1-2014), bearing the same impressed WEDGWOOD and Beanes Patent Tea Infuser marks.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMarks: impressed WEDGWOOD and BEANES PATENT TEA INFUSER to the plinth underside; red painted pattern numbers to the underside and inside the cover.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCondition: there are \u003cstrong\u003evarious chips\u003c\/strong\u003e, including a chip to the rim of the upper section, a chip to the inner rim of the cover, a chip to the rim of the lower body, and hairline cracks visible to the inside of the domed cover. Wear to the gilding, particularly the feet, and crazing and light staining throughout, consistent with age. The metal tap is present.
