A late 18th-century Spode pearlware oval dish with the classic blue feather-edge border, the moulded rim brushed in underglaze cobalt blue around a plain white well.

The underside is impressed SPODE with the number 14. It was made at Josiah Spode's Stoke works in the 18th century; the impressed SPODE mark belongs to the founding era of the factory, long before it became Copeland & Garrett in 1833. The blue tint of the pearlware glaze can be seen where it pools on the underside.

Feather-edge tableware was a staple of the leading Staffordshire potteries in the late 18th century, and impressed examples by the major makers are sought after by collectors of early English pottery.

Condition: light surface wear and scattered kiln specks consistent with age. We have not found chips or cracks; please see the photos.

We list a wide range of antique and vintage pottery and porcelain, including more early English pearlware, so please take a look at our other listings.
