Antique 1822 Mogg Survey High Roads Map London to Exeter Taunton Framed

An original antique strip road map from Edward Mogg's Survey of the High Roads of England, 1822 - the route London to Exeter, here showing the Somerset stretch through Taunton, Bridgwater and North Petherton, 'measured from Hyde Park Corner'. Framed and glazed.

Mogg's survey was admired for incorporating up-to-date detail at the unusually large scale of one mile to one inch, allowing the seats of gentry, named residences and roadside cottages to be shown, all within a hatched border with two strips to the page.

Marks: as published in Mogg's Survey of the High Roads, 1822. Size: approx. 29 x 23 cm framed. A collector's note to the reverse records the title and the work's character.
