An early 19th-century English feldspathic (smear-glazed) stoneware jug, the blue slip ground applied with crisp white relief sprigging in the classical taste - putti/cherubs, a lion and figural vignettes between moulded borders, in the manner made famous by Wedgwood jasperware and its contemporaries.
Jugs of this type were produced circa 1810-1830 by makers including Turner, Adams, Spode, Wedgwood and Wood & Caldwell, and are frequently unmarked.
The jug is a compact, attractive size displaying restrained neo-classical decoration prized by collectors of early English stoneware. Please refer to the photographs for the measured size.
Offered in good antique condition consistent with age; please study all photographs closely as they form part of this description, checking for hairlines and any sprig losses, and ask any questions before buying. Carefully packed; UK and international postage available.
