A small Chinese porcelain bowl with a green and yellow enamelled ground, finely decorated in the Qing taste. Late 19th century. A small professional repair to the rim - honestly disclosed below.
Yellow-ground porcelain has held a particular significance in Chinese ceramics since the Ming dynasty, when yellow became formally reserved for the imperial household. Yellow-ground wares with overglaze enamel decoration in the famille rose and famille verte palettes were produced at Jingdezhen throughout the Qing dynasty, both for imperial use and for the export market, and were also widely copied by provincial kilns. The combination of green and yellow grounds in this manner is characteristic of the later 19th century, when colourful enamelled wares were produced in considerable quantities for both domestic and export markets.
This bowl measures approximately 8cm across, of typical small Chinese bowl form with rounded sides on a small foot rim. A small repair to the rim is present and is honestly disclosed; please refer to the photographs for the precise area and condition of the repair. Otherwise the bowl is intact and displays well.
A nice small cabinet piece for the collector of Chinese ceramics willing to accept the disclosed condition issue. Priced accordingly. UK delivery available; collection from Nottingham welcome.
