Antique Chinese Peking (Beijing) carpet, circa 1920s. Hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation.
A large and decorative example with a deep indigo-blue field centred by a circular “Hundred Antiques” medallion — vases of flowering branches, ruyi sceptres, scrolling ribbons and scholar’s objects — with matching treasure motifs in the corner spandrels. Framed by a pale-blue cloud-band and precious-objects border. A calm, classic colour palette of indigo, soft blue, ivory and camel that works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Size: 344 x 276 cm (approx. 11ft 3in x 9ft 1in)
Condition: Good. Hand-knotted wool with good pile throughout. Some very minor wear to the edges and light, even surface softening consistent with age and gentle use (please see photographs, which form part of the description). Fringes present to both ends. No significant damage, holes or repairs. Please see images. A genuinely usable antique, not a worn-out one.
Perfect for an interior designer, period property or anyone wanting an authentic antique Chinese carpet with presence and scale. These large blue Pekings are increasingly hard to find in this condition.
