This fine early 19th‑century plate is an authentic Georgian period Wedgwood porcelain piece, dating to around the 1820s. It is a scarce survival from Wedgwood’s Regency era production, notable for its richly hand‑gilded decoration and refined neoclassical style. Measuring approximately 21 cm in diameter (see measuring tape in the photographs), it is ideal as a collector’s cabinet plate or as part of an advanced Wedgwood or English porcelain service.

The plate is made from a hard, white porcelain body and finished with an opulent border design in deep cobalt blue, soft blush‑buff tones and burnished gold. Around the rim runs a continuous band of stylised fan or shell motifs, each reserved in pale ground and heavily enriched with hand‑applied gilt scrollwork. These sit over a dark cobalt blue ground with fine geometric and foliate embellishment, creating a dramatic contrast typical of high‑style Regency taste. Between each roundel are tapering white leaf or petal forms, further picked out with gilded details, giving the border a rhythm reminiscent of a classical anthemion frieze.

Within this lavish outer band is a clean, undecorated well framed by a narrow gilt circle, now attractively softened with age. At the centre appears a delicate, radial gilt motif, lightly worn from use, which originally would have sparkled in candlelight on the Georgian dining table. The edge of the plate is subtly shaped with gentle undulations, adding an extra note of refinement when viewed in profile.

The reverse is plain glazed white with a simple printed factory mark in red reading “WEDGWOOD”. This early printed mark is consistent with period Wedgwood porcelain of the first quarter of the 19th century and helps confirm both authenticity and approximate dating. The footrim is neatly turned and glazed, as expected on quality tablewares of this era.

Condition is commensurate with genuine antique use and age, and buyers are encouraged to study the images carefully. The photographs show typical surface wear to the gilding, particularly to the central roundel and inner gilt line, minor utensil marks in the well, and small firing or glaze imperfections as commonly found on hand‑made early 19th‑century porcelain. No obvious large cracks or structural damage are apparent in the images, and the rim appears free from any major losses, though small age‑related nicks or roughness cannot be entirely ruled out and should be judged from the close‑up views provided.

This plate is part of a rare and increasingly hard‑to‑find Wedgwood Georgian gilt pattern; multiple examples may be available, making it an excellent opportunity either to build a matched set or to replace missing pieces in an existing Regency service. Its combination of cobalt, blush and rich gilding makes it a striking display piece in a cabinet, on a wall, or arranged with other early English porcelains. For collectors of Wedgwood, Georgian wares, and Regency decorative arts, it represents a desirable and highly decorative item that clearly reflects the elegance and craftsmanship of circa 1820 Wedgwood production.
