This attractive matching pair of small antique bud vases is finely made in porcelain and richly decorated in an opulent late-19th‑century style. Each vase stands at around 14 cm high, a perfect size for mantel, bedside or occasional‑table display, and the pair presents particularly well together.

The elegant baluster bodies taper gently to narrow necks with flared rims, ideal for holding one or two short‑stemmed flowers. The overall ground is a soft peach or apricot tone with a subtle satin sheen, contrasted by shaped black panels to the front of each vase. These panels form a dramatic backdrop for the hand painted floral decoration: cascades of multi‑coloured garden flowers including roses and other summer blooms, rendered in vivid pinks, yellows, blues, mauves and greens. The painting is executed with care, suggesting work from a quality continental or English decorating studio of the Victorian or Edwardian period.

Heavy use of gilding enhances the luxurious character of the pair. Raised, moulded acanthus leaves in burnished gold climb from the foot and frame the lower part of each black panel, giving a three‑dimensional richness and catching the light beautifully. The circular stepped bases and the rims of the vases are also banded in gold, while the white porcelain collars just below the lips show a delicate hand painted gilt leaf garland. The gilding appears generally crisp with only light age‑related rubbing visible on close inspection, consistent with careful display rather than hard use.

The interiors and the unglazed foot‑rims confirm that the vases are made from a fine white porcelain body, typical of late‑19th‑century decorative wares. There are no obvious maker’s marks to the bases in the photographs, which is not unusual for small vases of this type; they may originate from an English factory working in the Coalport or Royal Worcester taste, or from a continental European manufacturer emulating similar luxury styles.

Condition, based on the images provided, appears good for the age. Both vases stand true with no visible cracks, repairs or significant chips; only minor pin‑pricks, slight rubbing to the gilding and small firing or glaze anomalies may be present, as expected in hand finished pieces of this period. The painted floral panels remain bright and unfaded, and the pair makes a highly decorative ensemble ready to be enjoyed.

Collectively these compact yet eye‑catching vases are ideal for collectors of antique porcelain, for those assembling a mantelpiece or cabinet display of hand painted floral wares, or simply for adding a refined vintage accent to a modern interior. Their harmonious colour palette of peach, black and gold allows them to blend easily with both antique and contemporary furnishings, while the generous use of gilding and detailed flowers ensures they have sufficient presence to stand out as focal pieces.
