A charming hand-painted glass goblet decorated with the figure of a lady in a full crinoline dress, with scattered enamelled gilt and coloured spots to the body. The base finished with a machine-cut pontil mark indicating mid-20th century manufacture in a romantic 19th century revival style.
Decorative glass of this kind - typically Bohemian or Continental in origin and produced for the export market - takes its visual cues from the 19th century tradition of enamel-painted commemorative and wedding glass. The romantic figure of the crinoline lady, executed in clear bright enamels against the clear glass body, was a popular subject and appears on tableware, decorative glass and bonbon dishes from the 1930s through the 1970s.
This goblet measures 19cm in height, raised on a knopped stem and circular foot, with the figure of the lady painted prominently to one side and scattered gilt and enamelled dots over the body. Condition is good throughout with no chips. Please review the photographs for full detail of the painting and the glass.
A pretty and decorative piece, particularly effective when displayed where light can pass through the glass. UK tracked delivery; collection from Nottingham welcome.
