Antique Money Tree Pattern Imari Stone China Square Dish Blue Seal Mark 21cm

A Regency stone china square dish in the well-known "Money Tree" pattern (also called "Rock and Tree"), c.1815–1830, painted in the Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue, iron red, green and gilt with the characteristic blue rock and tree issuing from a fenced garden, surrounded by panels of flowers and foliage. Approximate size: diameter 21cm.

The base carries a pseudo-Chinese seal mark painted in underglaze blue, the mark used by the Staffordshire stone-china and ironstone makers of the period. The Money Tree pattern is best known on Coalport porcelain — a service is in the Royal Collection — but the heavy stone-china body of this example points to one of the Staffordshire potteries working in the same fashionable taste. I have not attributed it to a specific factory.
