An early antique map of Monmouthshire, engraved after Christopher Saxton for William Camden's Britannia, first issued in 1607. The Latin title reads Monumethensis Comitatus, quem olim incoluerunt Silures, beneath the royal arms of James I with lion and unicorn supporters and the motto Beati Pacifici.
The map shows the county's towns, rivers and hills in pictorial relief, with parts of Brecknockshire, Herefordshire, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire and Somerset, a decorative compass rose and a sailing ship in the Severn estuary. Finished in hand colour.
The back carries a label from the Capital Bookshop, Morgan Arcade, Cardiff, describing it as a genuine antique print of 1607 from Camden's Britannia, hand coloured.
