A fine antique hand-coloured engraving titled "Moor Park, Hertfordshire", showing the Palladian mansion with two figures in the foreground.
From J.P. Neale's "Views of the Seats of Noblemen and Gentlemen in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland", c.1820. Hand-coloured.
PROVENANCE LABEL VERSO: The reverse retains a period descriptive label reading: "A hand coloured Georgian engraved copperplate view of Moor Park, near Watford, Hertfordshire. The grandest mansion in Hertfordshire, Moor Park was created in the 1720s for Benjamin Styles who had made a fortune out the South Sea Bubble. The grounds were remodelled by Capability Brown in the 1750s and they now provide a well-known golf course, with the mansion as clubhouse. This print dates from circa 1820."
Historical significance: Moor Park survives today as Moor Park Golf Club, with the original Palladian mansion serving as the clubhouse — making this print of particular interest to golf historians as well as to Hertfordshire collectors. The combination of South Sea Bubble history, Capability Brown landscaping, and surviving golf club provenance makes Moor Park one of the most appealing Hertfordshire subjects.
Quality framed presentation. Print in good condition; the period descriptive label adds significantly to display and provenance value.
Dimensions: Framed approximately 22 x 25 cm.
