An English ironstone covered vegetable dish and stand, c.1815–1830, of rectangular form with canted corners, the domed cover surmounted by a lion finial, painted in the Imari palette with bold green foliage, cobalt blue and orange flowers and gilt highlights. Stand approximately 21 x 24cm; height overall approximately 16cm.
Unmarked. The heavy stone-china body and this style of Imari-derived decoration were produced by several Staffordshire factories in the Regency period; it is not a Mason's piece and I have not attributed it to a specific maker. Covered serving pieces of this date survive in far smaller numbers than plates and are increasingly hard to find.
Condition: Please see images for condition — the photographs form part of the description and show every angle, the base and any faults. Gilt wear commensurate with age; base and interior photographed.
From a large private collection of early 19th-century English ceramics, acquired over many years and now being dispersed.
