This elegant antique soup plate is an early 19th‑century example of Royal Crown Derby production, dating to approximately 1806–1825. Made in fine English porcelain, it features a classic Regency design combining a rich cobalt blue ground with lavish hand‑gilded ornament, a style for which the Derby factory was particularly renowned during this period.

The wide rim is decorated with an intricate pattern of stylised palmettes, scrolling foliage and feathered fronds, all executed in brilliant burnished gilt against a deep cobalt blue border. The gilding appears entirely hand‑applied, with subtle variation and fine brushwork that give the decoration a crisp yet artisanal quality typical of early Derby wares. A fine gilt line defines the inner edge of the rim, framing the central well.

The centre of the plate is reserved in a clean ivory‑toned glaze and is embellished only with a small neoclassical gilt rosette, echoing the palmette forms on the border. This restrained central motif balances the more opulent rim and is characteristic of Regency taste, when bold borders and relatively plain centres were fashionable on quality table services.

The underside bears an early red Derby mark, consistent with the 1806–1825 date range noted by the owner. This handwritten style of factory mark, often including entwined initials and small emblematic devices, is typical of the pre‑Victorian period at Derby and helps to confirm the attribution. The plate measures approximately 25 cm in diameter (as shown in the measurement image), making it a generous soup or bowl plate size suited to the main course of a formal service.

Condition, as visible in the photographs, shows age‑related wear typical of a piece now around two centuries old. There is an evident firing crack or hairline running across the base and visible on both front and back; some associated staining is present along the line on the reverse. Minor surface wear, small utensil marks in the well, and light rubbing to some raised areas of the gilding can also be seen, although much of the gilt border remains bright and attractive. The footrim shows expected scuffing from long use and storage. Despite these issues, the plate retains considerable decorative appeal and presents very well when viewed from above.

This soup plate would be of interest to collectors of early Royal Crown Derby and to those specialising in Regency period English porcelain, cobalt‑and‑gilt table services, and neoclassical design. It displays beautifully in a cabinet or on a wall and could also be used occasionally with care as part of a period table setting. As a surviving component of an early 19th‑century service, it offers an evocative glimpse into the luxurious dining culture of Georgian England and the high standards of craftsmanship achieved by the Derby factory at that time.
