Antique Stern Brothers New York Gilt Metal Ornate Picture Photograph Frame

An ornate antique gilt-metal photograph/picture frame, retailed by STERN BROTHERS NEW YORK — the famous Manhattan luxury department store founded in 1867 and operating until 2001, a flagship of Ladies' Mile fashionable shopping in the Gilded Age.

The rectangular frame features applied cast gilt-metal laurel-leaf and ribbon decoration to the mouldings, in the Belle Époque taste. The glass is intact and the easel back is present and functional. The frame is currently empty, ready for the buyer's chosen photograph or print.

Stern's-marked decorative items consistently command a premium over unmarked equivalents — particularly amongst American collectors of Gilded Age and Belle Époque material, for whom the Stern Brothers name carries cachet.
