An attractive antique Wedgwood creamware twin-handled sucrier (sugar basin) and cover, late 19th/early 20th century. The piece is of classical urn form, raised on a stepped pedestal foot with a baluster body, high arched loop handles, and a domed cover surmounted by a conical pointed finial.
The decoration is hand-painted: a finely drawn garland of oak leaves and acorns is suspended by pink ribbon ties around the upper body of the basin and the cover, framed by brown line borders. The use of oak leaf and acorn motifs together with ribbon-tied swags is a classic neoclassical Wedgwood convention.
The base is impressed and printed with the mark J&P / WEDGWOOD / ETRURIA — Wedgwood's Etruria works mark, with the J&P prefix indicating a known retailer's mark of the period.
Condition: very good. No chips, cracks, hairlines, or restorations. Some very minor wear to the decoration consistent with gentle use. The cover fits well.
A handsome, useable Wedgwood piece that would suit both collectors and those wanting authentic period creamware for the table.
Dimensions: Approximately 9 cm tall.
