This elegant antique dessert plate is an authentic early 19th‑century piece of Wedgwood porcelain from the Georgian period, dating to around the 1820s. Measuring approximately 21 cm in diameter (see tape measure in the photographs for confirmation), it is a finely potted round plate with a gently everted rim and a shallow well, produced in a bright white porcelain body typical of Wedgwood’s higher‑grade wares of the period.

The decoration is characteristic of late Georgian Regency taste. The wide border is richly enamelled with repeated stylised shell or palmette motifs in soft peach‑pink reserves, each delicately highlighted with hand‑applied burnished gilt. Between the roundels, fine neoclassical details in gold sit against a dark cobalt‑blue ground, creating a bold contrast that was highly fashionable in the 1810–1830 period. The inner edge of the cavetto is framed by a narrow hand‑painted gilt line, enclosing a plain central reserve with a small gilt foliate rosette to the centre. The aesthetic echoes contemporary English porcelain from leading factories of the time, and is entirely consistent with quality Wedgwood production.

The reverse of the plate is unglazed at the footrim and shows typical firing speckling and minor kiln imperfections of early 19th‑century manufacture. A small printed Wedgwood mark in red is visible on the back; this style of impressed/printed factory mark was adopted by Wedgwood in the early 1800s and supports the Georgian dating. There are no modern marks, confirming that this is a genuine antique example rather than a later reproduction. The porcelain body rings clearly when lightly tapped, further indicating good quality production.

Condition is generally good for an item of around 200 years of age, but collectors should study the photographs carefully. There is expected age‑related wear to the gilding, particularly on the rim and on some of the raised shell motifs, where the burnished gold has softened through handling and use. Minor surface scratches and small utensil marks can be seen in the central well under raking light, in keeping with historic table use. The rim shows a few small glaze nibbles and firing irregularities; these appear stable and are not visually distracting when the plate is displayed. There are no obvious structural cracks or heavy repairs visible in the images, though any tiny kiln lines or craze lines typical of antique porcelain should be assumed.

This plate would originally have formed part of a larger dessert or cabinet service, and the user notes indicate that multiple plates from the same set may be available; variations in wear between plates should be expected with hand‑decorated Georgian porcelain. Pieces such as this are now increasingly scarce, especially with intact cobalt and gilt decoration and the desirable red printed Wedgwood mark. It is well suited for use as a cabinet piece, wall display, or to enhance a period table setting, and will appeal to collectors of early Wedgwood, Regency and Georgian ceramics, and English gilt porcelain of the 19th century.

Please refer to all photographs for an accurate representation of pattern, colour and condition. The plate will be carefully packed to protect the delicate hand‑gilded decoration.
