A large studio pottery vase by Averil Ainley (British, born 1937), of baluster form with a short collar neck, covered in a rich mottled brown, ochre and cream glaze.

Incised signature to the base, with the potter's own label giving her name and Northwood, Middlesex address.

Averil Ainley's work appears at specialist design auctions; a smaller vessel by her was offered at Chiswick Auctions in their Design and Modern Contemporary sale.
