Chinese Carved Gilt Red Lacquer Figural Panel Antique Qing 19thC

A Chinese carved wood panel decorated in relief with figures - a horseman and attendants - in a garden with a balustrade and blossoming branches, the figures gilt and raised against a deep red/pink lacquered ground. Narrative figural panels of this kind were used on furniture, screens and architectural fittings. The panel dates to the 19th or early 20th century (late Qing / Republic period). Some flaking of the lacquer and loss to the gilding is expected with age. Measuring approximately 25 x 15 cm, this is a charming decorative Oriental relief panel for wall display.
