An atmospheric Orientalist gouache of a lone rider on a camel passing the ruins of an ancient temple in the Egyptian desert, with a pale dawn sky fading from rose to blue. Signed Forness Wilson lower right.
The scene is painted with confident, economical brushwork in the manner of the early 20th century Cairo and Luxor tourist-trade painters, whose work was carried home by travellers on the Nile steamers and is now keenly collected.
Presented behind glass in a plain wooden frame with a gilt slip. Backboard with old brown paper and string, consistent with age. Overall size approx 47 x 37 cm.
Condition: the image is bright and unfaded. Please study the photographs, which form part of the description. Sold as found, from a private collection.
A companion pyramid scene by the same artist is listed separately.
