This attractive framed portrait plaque features a classic blue-and-white jasperware-style medallion depicting the profile bust of William Shakespeare. The oval ceramic plaque shows the dramatist in left-facing relief, finely modelled with good detail to the hair, facial features and draped classical costume. The pale blue ground and crisp white relief are strongly reminiscent of traditional Wedgwood jasperware, making this an ideal decorative accent for lovers of English literature and neoclassical design.
The medallion is mounted on a neutral woven fabric backing, which sets off the colours of the plaque and gives the piece a refined, country-house feel. The frame is an oval wooden surround finished in black with an inner gilt slip, providing a handsome contrast to the soft tones of the portrait. The rear bears a label for “Dan Murray Smith Gallery – Quality Picture Framing, Purley, Surrey”, indicating it has been professionally framed and is ready for immediate display.
The overall frame size is approximately 19cm by 24cm, a versatile scale that works well on its own on a narrow wall or as part of a larger gallery arrangement. It would sit particularly well in a study, library, hallway, or bedroom with traditional, cottage, or period-inspired décor. The piece hangs from a fixed loop on the back and can be easily repositioned as required.
Condition is generally good and perfectly suitable for display. There is a visible crease to the fabric mount and a few small age-related marks to the backing cloth and inner rim. The ceramic Shakespeare plaque itself is currently secured with removable adhesive (blu-tack); the buyer may wish to replace this with double-sided tape or a more permanent mounting method for extra security, but it is already stable enough to hang as is. The black frame shows light surface wear and minor scuffing commensurate with age and handling, which does not detract from its overall appearance.
Although unmarked on the back, the colour palette and relief style clearly echo classic Wedgwood jasperware portrait medallions of literary figures. This makes the piece an excellent, budget-friendly way to introduce that look into your home without the premium of an early factory-marked example. It would make a thoughtful gift for an English literature enthusiast, Shakespeare fan, or anyone who enjoys historically inspired decorative arts.
Offered at a keen price and ready to hang, this framed Shakespeare portrait plaque combines literary interest, traditional craftsmanship, and timeless decorative appeal in one compact and very charming package.
