Pair Chinese Famille Rose Butterfly & Flower Bowls Jiangxi Jingdezhen Mark

A matched pair of Chinese famille rose bowls finely enamelled on a white ground with butterflies amid flowering branches and scattered blooms, the rims with a gilt line. Butterfly-and-flower decoration is among the most charming and collectable of the Jingdezhen patterns. Each base bears an iron-red six-character mark reading Jiangxi Jingdezhen Zhi (江西景德鎮製). Attributed to the Republic period or 20th century; a finer, earlier (Tongzhi/Guangxu) dating is possible on close inspection of the paste, footrim and quality of painting. The bowls measure approximately 13.5 cm in diameter and are offered as a pair.
