A handsome set of four matching antique Victorian steel engravings in uniform gilt-decorated rosewood-effect frames — a striking decorative set, all in matching framing, ready to hang as a group.
The four subjects:
- (a) "Hartlepool" — coastal view with figures on dunes and shipping at anchor, painted by T. Creswick after a sketch by G. Balmer, engraved by W. Finden, c.1840 (from Finden's "Ports and Harbours" series).
- (b) "The Royal Closet, St James" — Queen Victoria receiving Archbishops and Bishops congratulating Her Majesty on Her Birthday. Mid-19th century court scene.
- (c) "The Throne Room, Buckingham Palace - Presentation of an Address from the University of Oxford" — Victorian royal ceremony in the Throne Room.
- (d) "School for the Indigent Blind, St George's Fields, Southwark" — bustling London street scene with carriages and figures, engraved by T.A. Prior.
All four engravings are hand-coloured, mid-19th century. The frames are uniform — gilt-decorated darker (rosewood-effect) mouldings, all the same size — making the set ideal for display as a coordinated group above a console, in a hallway, or as a feature wall.
SOLD AS A SET OF FOUR. NOT TO BE SPLIT. The value of this lot is overwhelmingly in the matched framing and as a coordinated group — splitting the set would significantly reduce both individual and collective value.
All four prints in good condition, frames sound, glazing intact. Please refer to detailed photographs.
Dimensions: Each frame approximately 31 x 28 cm — all four uniform.
From a private UK collection. Will be packed individually and dispatched as a single multi-piece consignment.
