Shropshire Antique County Map 18th Century Hand Coloured Framed Small

A small 18th-century copper-engraved county map of SHROPSHIRE, with an engraved descriptive panel beginning "The County of SALOP is 134 M in circumference, contains about 890000 Acres..." and noting that "this being a Frontier County to Wales had more Castles than any in England", followed by a numbered list of the Hundreds.

The map shows Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Wenlock, Bishop's Castle and the Welsh border, with a scale of English miles. The reverse is inscribed in pencil "Thos. Bowen - 1768"; this attribution has not been independently confirmed.

Size: 18 x 18 cm framed. With hand colouring, in a cream mount and decorative frame.

Condition: toning consistent with age.
