Thomas Kitchin Shropshire Antique County Map c1786 Hand Coloured Framed

An 18th-century copper-engraved county map of Shropshire by Thomas Kitchin, with the rococo title cartouche SHROPSHIRE, Drawn from the best Surveys, and Regulated by Astronl. Observations, By T. Kitchin Geogr.

Kitchin originally engraved this map for the London Magazine in 1752, and it was later reissued in Henry Boswell's Antiquities of England and Wales from 1786. It shows Shrewsbury, the River Severn and the neighbouring counties, with an explanation key and a scale of miles.

A label to the reverse reads "T. Kitchin, map 'Shropshire', date 1786".

Size: 28 x 34 cm framed. With hand colouring, in a cream mount and ebonised frame.

Condition: toning consistent with age.
