Vintage Italian Chinoiserie White Heron Bird Table Lamp Hollywood Regency 81cm

A stunning vintage Italian chinoiserie white ceramic table lamp modelled as a heron, in the Hollywood Regency taste. Signed to the reverse and marked "Made in Italy" to the base. A genuine statement piece of mid to late 20th century Italian decorative art.

The combination of chinoiserie figural lighting, white-glazed ceramic and confident sculptural modelling is one of the most desirable looks in the Italian Hollywood Regency idiom. Wading bird lamps - herons, cranes, egrets - were a particularly successful and recurring theme, drawing on East Asian decorative iconography while taking advantage of the long elegant line of the bird's neck to produce a tall, slim, theatrical lamp form. Italian ceramic workshops, particularly those around Bassano and Florence, were the leading European producers of such lamps during the 1960s and 1970s.

This lamp stands 81cm in height including the shade stand (65cm without), modelled as a heron in finely detailed white-glazed ceramic. The base is signed to the reverse and marked "Made in Italy" - confirming Italian origin. Condition is good; wired and ready for use, though as with any second-hand lighting a qualified electrician should check installation before connection.
