Vintage Italian Faux Bamboo Hollywood Regency Ceramic Table Lamp White 50cm

A stylish vintage Italian ceramic table lamp in white-glazed faux bamboo form, in the Hollywood Regency taste that dominated international high decor in the 1960s and 1970s. Made in Italy.

Faux bamboo - decorative objects shaped and detailed to imitate bamboo while being made of porcelain, ceramic, gilt metal or composition - has a long pedigree in European decorative arts, going back to the chinoiserie taste of the 18th century. In its mid-20th century Hollywood Regency revival, faux bamboo became one of the signature looks of high-end American and European interiors, associated with decorators such as Tony Duquette, Dorothy Draper, David Hicks and Mario Buatta. Italian ceramic producers - particularly the workshops around Bassano and Florence - were leading suppliers of faux bamboo lamps, occasional tables and decorative accessories during this period.

This lamp stands 50cm in height (lamp base only - shade not included), of column form moulded as a stylised bamboo trunk in crisp white-glazed ceramic with finely modelled nodes. Wired for UK use; as with any second-hand lighting, a qualified electrician should check installation before use.
