This listing is for a vintage Japanese Arita Imari porcelain plate, measuring approximately 9½ inches in diameter, with a classic scalloped rim and richly decorated surface. The plate exemplifies mid‑20th‑century Arita Imari export ware, combining bold cobalt blue, iron‑red, and soft green enamels with underglaze blue drawing in the traditional manner. Its compact size makes it ideal as a cabinet display piece, wall plate, or an accent on a sideboard or low table.

The front of the plate is arranged in a typical Imari patchwork style. A deep cobalt ground forms a broad border, densely filled with large chrysanthemum blossoms and leaves, painted in underglaze blue and highlighted with fine white reserve detailing. These florals create a lively contrast against the dark blue background and are repeated rhythmically around the scalloped rim, emphasizing the undulating outline of the piece.

Within this floral border, two asymmetrical reserve panels are set at angles, framed in iron‑red with a key‑fret (Greek key) pattern that is characteristic of Arita Imari designs. The larger rectangular panel contains a delicate iron‑red landscape with stylized foliage and a long‑tailed phoenix (hō‑ō), a traditional Japanese symbol of virtue, renewal, and auspicious fortune. The second, zig‑zag edged panel shows a complementary phoenix and cloud motif, with additional green and black enamel accents that lend depth and texture to the scene. Together these reserves create a dynamic, almost collage‑like composition that is highly typical of Japanese Imari ware made for both domestic and export markets.

The back of the plate is plain white glazed porcelain with a double foot‑ring and a faint underglaze blue ring line, again consistent with Arita kiln practices. No maker’s mark is present, which is common for many mid‑20th‑century Aoki and related Arita workshop pieces intended for export. The porcelain body appears bright and fine, with a slightly bluish cast to the glaze when seen at an angle, a further indication of Arita manufacture rather than later, heavier stoneware copies.

Condition appears generally very presentable for a vintage display plate. From the images there is typical light wear to the enamels at high points and minor surface scratching to the glaze consistent with age and use. The rim shows small areas of roughness and the occasional tiny firing flaw or frit, which are usual in hand‑finished Imari porcelain and do not detract from display. No obvious large cracks or intrusive restoration are visible in the photographs, but as with all antique and vintage ceramics, prospective buyers should carefully inspect the supplied images to assess condition to their own satisfaction.

This plate would make a striking addition to a collection of Japanese Imari, Arita, or general Asian export porcelain. Its combination of strong cobalt blue, iron‑red enamelling, auspicious phoenix decoration, and scalloped floral rim places it visually with classic Meiji‑to‑Showa revival Imari styles, while the 9½‑inch size displays comfortably in most curio cabinets and wall plate hangers. It is particularly well suited for pairing with other blue‑and‑white or Imari‑palette wares, and will bring a vivid, traditional Japanese accent to either period or contemporary interiors.
